Day 4. I skipped one.
Yesterday didn't seem to be long enough for me to take a picture. Today I'm back to baking - making pumpkin puree to be used in this recipe, but I'll be making muffins instead of loaves. Even though I didn't ask for a Christmas miracle this year, I ended up with Christmas Eve off as well as Christmas and Boxing Day.

52 Weeks, week 9...sweet noncompliance.
I made sugar cookies with cream cheese last week and they were so good, I ate them before I put icing on them. I think if Canada had won the gold in the Jr World Championship, I might have dyed the icing red, but since the team lost and these are makeup cookies anyway, I left the icing alone (cream cheese icing, too, btw). So you know, I'm giving about half these cookies to my upstairs neighbors for being awesome. They have a snowblower, their dog is cute and doesn't make any noise, they never blast music before 10am (and when they do, it's not country), they enjoy quiet and privacy as much as we do, and they don't scream during sex. This isn't a true apartment building, more like a house divided into an upstairs and a downstairs apartment, so sound carries more than it normally would. All in all, they're probably the greatest neighbors we could have asked for, and I want them to know that without seeming creepy. Cookies should work. Should I invite them to look me up on Facebook? Hm.

I can take it. Not so long to bake it. I have the recipe still.
Also, this will not be left out in any rain. You have my word.

Another baking adventure - more bread!
Today I mixed whole wheat flour with white, all-purpose flour. I made two grocery-store-sized loaves and one subway-sandwich-style loaf for Darren. I dusted with cornmeal because it made me feel gourmet. Who wants to come over for French toast now? I can only eat one slice, since it's bread.

3 Pretzel-shaped Pretzels, 3 nerds
Only 2 nerds are represented here. The first one sacrificed itself for the tasting crew (Darren and me). The hardest part of all this was dunking the pretzels in the baking soda and water mixture. Baking soda, when boiled, likes to get all frothy. The nerds came untwisted when I tried to get them out without being able to see what I was doing through the froth.

Today's baking adventure is Bavarian Pretzels.
Why? NO CLUE. I guess everyone who visits Germany ends up craving these pretzels at some point, but hopefully it would be before they have gastric bypass surgery, not 6 years after. I'm calling this adventure a semi-success because most of my pretzels came out pretzel-shaped, none of them burned, and they taste fine. I can only eat them at a rate of one bite per hour, though. So much for 'enjoy while warm!'
